About
AMY OWENS-PMHNP-BC
Hello and welcome! My name is Amy Owens Horelica, and I am a dedicated board certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) with a passion for holistic, integrative medicine. My journey into mental health care was inspired by a deep-seated desire to understand and alleviate the struggles I observed within my own family, as well as a commitment to helping others achieve a balanced, fulfilling life.
My Professional Background
I began my academic journey with a Bachelor of Environmental Design from Texas A&M University, where I was trained in how form and function create calming spaces that foster a sense of belonging. This sparked my interest in the psychological impacts of our environment on our mind, body, and spirit, leading me to explore the interconnectedness of these elements in promoting healing.
I furthered my education with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas – Arlington, followed by a Master of Science in Nursing from the University ofTexas Health Science Center Houston. My training emphasized healing the whole person—body, mind, and spirit—through self-care, spirituality, and reflection. These principles form the foundation of my practice today.I am board certified as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC), and I have pursued specialized education in Integrative Psychiatry and NutritionalPsychiatry. Over the past 12+ years, I have gained diverse experience in various clinical settings, including hospitals, surgical centers, community clinics, and private practices.
Holistic Approach to Mental Health
I empathize with the frustration of having a provider who simply prescribes medication without addressing the root causes of distress. My practice integrates traditional psychiatric treatments with complementary therapies, promoting a well- rounded, personalized approach to mental health care. I believe in the power of combining medication management with talk therapy, mindfulness, nutrition, lifestyle coaching, genetic testing, and supplements.
Fun Facts About Me
When I'm not working, I love traveling, creating candles out of vintage vessels and outdoor activities, especially those involving water—gardening, paddle boarding, snorkeling, and searching for sea glass with my therapy Goldendoodle, Chloe. I enjoy eating healthy, well-balanced meals and discovering healthier versions of comfort foods—my favorite being a clean oatmeal raisin cookie recipe!
I also love reading for relaxation, with a particular fondness for historical fiction and the Outlander series. Like Claire, I started out with a passion for healing and have continued to grow in my understanding and practice of holistic health.
My Treatment Approach
My practice is built on the belief that mental health care should be as unique as the individuals seeking it. Together, we will create a comprehensive treatment plan that addresses your specific needs and goals, promoting healing and growth.
If you're looking for a provider who offers a balanced, integrative approach to mental health care, I would be honored to work with you. Let's embark on this journey together to achieve better mental wellness and live a meaningful life.
